What to see and do in Kelso

Our nearest town is Kelso, about 7 miles away, a beautiful old market town centred on its main cobbled square with elegant Georgian and Victorian buildings. The town has a long history and came into being as a result of the creation of Kelso Abbey in 1128.

There are a wide range of places to eat and drink and a variety of independent shops, from an ice cream parlour to traditional butchers, and country clothing to gift boutiques. There’s also a monthly farmer’s market.

Visitor attractions include Floors Castle, Kelso Abbey and the River Tweed Salmon Fishing Museum. Kelso Racecourse has regular race days throughout the year. For traditional music, Kelso Folk and Live Music Club runs sessions weekly on Thursdays and Fridays and a mini folk festival in September.

Fishing on the river Tweed

The River Tweed is a famous fly fishing destination, attracting anglers from across the globe to fish for Atlantic salmon. Its reputation as a top fishery for both trout and grayling is also growing. The trout and grayling season runs from 1 April to 30 September and grayling only from 1 December to 31 January.
